Normally, here at AbleGamers, we only bring you good news,
stuff related to gaming or peripherals.
However, today we bring you a horrifying story out of Australia, where
one boy had his Make-A-Wish stolen from him, literally. The
Daily Tribute reported about 14-year-old Zak Touilii who had his recent
wish stolen from his home in Wollongong, Australia.
Zak has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, an aggressive and
ultimately fatal disease that attacks muscles causing them to become weaker gradually
to the point where the patient will eventually be paralyzed with death setting
in relatively soon after. Make-A-Wish had
recently granted Zak's wish for a PlayStation 3 and several games; he enjoys
playing his PS3 with his friends. His
mother was devastated for her son, saying she had never seen him so depressed.
"He came flying out the front door and was just hysterical saying,
'Mum, they took my PlayStation'," she said.
"I wish those rotten bastards could have seen my son's face."
Who could blame her for being so upset? These hoodlums, no doubt looking for things
to sell for their latest drug fix, had just stolen the only thing that her son
the values so highly. It has been
mentioned many times on this website; video games are an excellent distraction
from the normal pains of everyday life.
Not to mention the psychological value that Zak receives from being able
to play with his friends, all of that taken away from him so that some jerk
could go get $50 on the street.
I cannot imagine that Make-A-Wish will not try to rectify
the situation, just from my own personal dealings with Make-A-Wish; they are a
company who stands behind the idea of making the lives of children with
terminal illnesses happier with a splash of magic. However, Make-A-Wish did not comment on
whether or not they would replace Zak's wish; the PlayStation 3. Speaking through a statement, Make-A-Wish
stated:
"We were very happy to be able to grant Zak his wish
recently and are horrified that anyone would be so cruel as to steal from a
young man who has already had to endure so much."
What kind of a person does it take to steal a videogame
system from a child, let alone a child with a terminal illness? I cannot personally fathom the type of
character it takes to take the dream of playing video games with his or her
friends away from someone for any reason, especially for the small value of
that PlayStation 3 will have on the street or to the person that stole it. What is happening to this world?
If you want to help, you may want to visit Make-A-Wish's Australian and make a donation, I am sure they will take the money in any form you give it. Make sure you tell them you want Zak's Playstation 3
