Something smells funny over at Sony.
The senior director of corporate communications, Dave Karraker, is
leaving Sony after spending less than a year on the job. Before
taking the gig at Sony Computer Entertainment America, Dave was the
head honcho for Allied Domecq Spirits and Wine, where he managed
communications for gin, vodka and other libations.
He is leaving Sony to return to the alcohol industry for
Skyy Vodka.
His email said...
I am saddened to leave such a great group of people,
but I have been presented a global opportunity near my home in an
industry where I have previous experience that I feel I must pursue.
It has been a wild ride and an incredibly enriching
experience. I have enjoyed immensely my tenure at SCEA and think the
company and its brands are very well positioned to have an
exceptional holiday and a very bright future. I look forward to
continuing to follow this industry as a gamer, rather than a
spokesperson.
Next Generation adds this commentary:
Inevitably, there will be people who
insist that Karraker is “jumping ship†as Sony continues to forge
ahead with the PlayStation 3 amidst stiff competition from Nintendo
and Microsoft. Indeed, Karraker handled PR through some of the most
challenging times for SCEA as it launched the PS3 last
November.
However, Karraker said that the main reason for his
departure is to be closer to home and back in an industry that he’s
familiar with.
