The hottest game to hit the streets since the likes of Halo 3 is out, and from the looks of it, many disabled people will be left out of the hooker beatings and gang land shootings of the new Grand Thief Auto IV.
Now I am not sure if you like the GTA
series or not, but the fact is the control layout on this game on the PS3 is hellish, let’s take a look…
Here is what the on foot control map looks like...
There is not a button or stick that is not in use... In fact if you notice that the L2 is the aim, and R2 is the fire... so much for our mono-handed brothers and sisters...
If that is not a feast for the eyes, take a look at the new mapping you get when you carjack yourself a new ride...
Notice break is on one side, and gas on the other...
Now, I am not by any means saying that the folks over at Rockstar Games have somehow done us wrong, not at all, this just points out the flaws with the current controllers on the market, the way SONY and Microsoft lock down this part of the device to 3rd party makers, so the only way to make a more disability friendly controller is to hack one from the console maker.
Side rant by Mark Barlet - GTA IV is rated M for mature, this means that only adults should buy it and play it. If by chance you buy this game for little Johnny to play, and when walking across the living room you notice he is shooting people in the face in the game, DO NOT BLAME THE GAME. It is time for people to take responsibility for what they allow in the house, not the government.
