The gaming news media is all abuzz about what they don't know. The rumor mill is in high gear, speculating that SONY is going to release something on October 12th. What could it be? There are theories that they will announce a new price for PS3 (that price being $399); others suspect that they will make a big deal about adding a DVR to the PS3. I think they are going to do both, and just to feed the rumor fire, I want to add that they may also going announce that Sony is changing its name to "Jose Banana Super Games and Stuff, Inc." Anyone else care to add to the mill?

UPDATE: Maybe not, 1UP is reporting that Sony has nothing planed....
Both Sony Computer Entertainment America and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
told 1UP that no events are planned in any territory -- we were
specific to ask about the US, France and Europe at large -- on October
12. "I am not aware of any big event planned for 12th October, press
conference or otherwise," said SCEE Director of Corporate
Communications Nick Sharples.
Of course, that doesn't
mean Sony doesn't have plans to roll out a major announcement about
their SKU shuffling for the holiday season, but we've had no
invitations to any "big bang" conference and with just a week until the
day, Sony says they aren't planning one, either. Stay tuned for more.
