Well unless you have been living under a rock (and I sure a few have been) you have heard by now that the HD format wars are over, and HD-DVD did not make it. For you XBOX 360 fans out there, I am sure you are also aware that Microsoft was a backer of the now defunked platform. In true Microsoft style, they were not so supportive as to put the HD-DVD IN the XBOX 360, but they were willing to let it hang off the side of your console, and wear the same clothes... Well the rumor mill is fully operational , and the buzz is that the XBOX 360 will come sporting a new Blu-Ray drive by end of the year.
To all those that thing this is the case, I want to tell you that it will not happen anytime soon, period. While the format wars have entered the history books, the console war is still alive and well, and while it is safe to say that there is a quiet truce between the 360 and PS3, on the consumer side of the house, in the back rooms there is an all out war.
The rumor mill is missing one very important fact, that Blu-Ray is owned by SONY, and so is PS3. In fact the built in Blu-Ray player was a main delta between the 360 and the PS3. Sony is not going to let what it sees as one of it's main selling points over the XBOX go away. You may read a lot about how MS is on the prowl for a suppler of players and so on... I think this is all created by hopeful XBOX owners (like me) and PS3 haters.
There is one way I see Blu-Ray coming to the XBOX, Microsoft pays throght the nose for them, forcing them to take a further loss on the hardware, and making sure Sony now gets a part of every XBOX sale.
