It is the dawn of the 6th century and King Arthur’s long and brilliant rule is at a close, his having died on the battlefield as valiantly as he led the vast kingdom of Camelot. No other ruler before or since could protect and hold together such an extraordinary kingdom. Now Camelot is divided into three realms, each warring for ultimate control over all the land. The time has come to side with the Briton realm of Albion, the Norse realm of Midgard, or the Celtic realm of Hibernia. Train well, succeed in battle, and perhaps one day you will shine some light on the Dark Age of Camelot.
Dark Age of Camelot is a medieval fantasy MMORPG set in the turbulent time immediately after King Arthur’s death. A whopping 44 different classes and 18 different races (six per realm) are available for playing in this MMO. Gamplay involves fighting animals, monsters and NPCs, completing quests and tasks and defeating other players in combat, all at the discretion of the player and to earn money and experience for leveling. Each level (up to level 50) opens up new skills and abilities to the player. Expansions to Dark Age of Camelot allow for additional “parallel” levels beyond the level 50 limit which make unique skills and abilities available to dedicated players.
Two styles of combat are accessible to players of Dark Age of Camelot; Realm vs. Realm (or PvP in other MMOs) and PvE. Successful PvE combat in Camelot may be rewarded with loot and money drops, while RvR rewards are in the form of prestigious Realm Points and perhaps a small amount of money. So far, there have been two free expansions ( Shrouded Isles, Foundations) to this MMOG and four retail ones (Trials of Atlantis, New Frontiers, Catacombs, Darkness Rising), with a seventh (Labyrinth of the Minotaur) due to be released in Fall ‘06.
