D&D® is the game that defines the genre and has set the standard for fantasy roleplaying for more than 30 years.

D&D is an imaginative, social experience that engages players in a rich fantasy world filled with larger-than-life heroes, deadly monsters, and diverse settings.

Players create heroic fantasy characters -- mighty warriors, stealthy rogues, or powerful wizards -- which they guide through an ongoing series of adventures, working together to defeat monsters and other challenges and growing in power, glory, and achievement.

I was in DDO beta since the November 2005 round of invites and spent much time playing the game as much as it frustrated me to do so. To be fair I will go over a few pro's and con's so people reading this have a good and fair idea about the game.

Pro's: Graphically appealling, character generation is great fun, sound and attention to detail in dungeons excellent, easy to pick up parties for adventurers, adventure durations clearly marked, what races and classes they do have seem well done though some could have used a bit more work.

Con's: Lacking some races and classes, almost entirely instanced game play no real world to randomly explore and bump into other random adventurers, though parties are easy to find the inns and such feel more like lobbies for quick pick ups, stilting much social interaction. World is extremely limited in scope, though the adventures are finally detailed and traps creative it does seem to get repetitive. Combat is a horror for those who are not huge fans of point and click combat or twitch combat. Soloing is not an option past level 2, and by this I do not mean it is hard it is well and truly not an option.

Overall: Though the game is beautiful and the adventures can be fun the combat system breaks this game for those who are challenged in the realm of hand eye coordination. Many folks go into whether or not the game is truly an online version of Pen and Paper Dungeons & Dragons as well; I have my own opinions on the matter but feel that the similarities adn differences are not that pertinent to the problems with the game. Visual cues and Sounds also play a role in the game, something that makes sense as they try and make each instanced dungeon as detailed and immersive as possible. The game has some potential for sure and I am certain many folks will love the change of pace it brings. Sadly, for an ablegamers perspective DDO will most likely turn out to be a horrid waste of money. No matter how intense, detailed, or beautiful the game may be its playability from a disabled players perspective is exceedingly low. For example, to play the game well I ended up designing characters of rogue or melee types to prevent needing to ever use hotkeys in combat. So focused on hitting the enemy and manevuering made active use of hotkeys and abilities difficult as even a second lost in a battle can have a long lasting effect in the long run. Characters do not heal on their own overtime, the few extra hitpoints of damage taken adds up over time and can result in objective failure.
