This story has been all over the local news here since I live close to Dallas. The National Federation of the Blind had their annual convention in Dallas last week. At the convention, the US Mint showed off their prototype for a new silver dollar to be released in 2009 that actually has stamped readable braille. This silver dollar will also bear the likeness of Louis Braille to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth. When the coin is made available for sale, there will be a $10 surcharge to help fund programs that benefit the blind.
