To Join or Not? That is the Question.
We hear from people all the time that they do not want to join AbleGamers.com because they do not want to tell others that they have a disability, that their guild, or clan mates are not aware that they have some challenges in their game play. Over and over again admins of AbleGamers get emails from disabled gamers asking for help on how they approach this game or that game, and we ask then to post on the forums… and the post never comes.
Why do we ask for such a thing? We always ask that they post on the forums because we strongly believe in that the best solution may not be something that I or someone else has, but a collaborative effort coming from other disabled gamers. You are not alone, and we are not experts… it is only the trial and error of those that came before you that can help bring you the game you want to play.
AbleGamers understands that some of our fellow gamers may be on the fence about joining the site. That is why AbleGamers using Usernames to identify each other, and we never post your real name (This is not the case for staff). Further, no one says you have to use a “game” name, or a forum name you use on another site. You can join under a totally different name that you use in your game life. You only have to tell others who you are if you choose too.
Why is membership so important?
AbleGamers works hard to get you news, and get game developers listen to us. We cannot do it effectively if we cannot show that there are real disabled gamers out there. Face it, companies only see the money, and if we want them to take us as a serious constituent group, we have to have the numbers to show it is worth their while. A hardware developer or game designer is far more likely to talk to us if we are a group of thousands, not a few hundred.
So come-on, if you are not wanting to tell your guild mates, or clan buds that you are disabled, pick a different name and join in the fun. If you do not care, you are welcome to share the info about how you are and seek to get a group.
Membership is important, it allows us to help each other, the more the merrier.
Come on, join us
